The Wigwam seamlessly combines old world luxury and modern amenities. Its accolades are numerous and its staff is consistently praised for genuinely friendly service. Mature orange, date palm, and other shade trees line the beautifully manicured grounds. Extensive flower gardens ripple across the front entrance, while deeper into the property emerald green lawns and smaller gardens, edged with privacy hedges, form intimate courtyards between the adobe and tiled-roofed casitas.
Accommodations: The single-story, territorial-style casitas are better than the two-story buildings for people traveling with pets. The casitas offer the most in privacy, character, and space. The most requested casitas overlook the golf course. Wool Berber carpets led us into southwestern-style rooms complete with pickled and light pine armoires, tables, and chairs. Amenities are numerous and include well-stocked mini bars, refrigerators, and hand-blown glassware. Cable televisions come with VCRs, and walk-in closets are spacious enough to accommodate a familys travel gear. The more expansive suites offer a living room with a stone fireplace, and a separate bedroom with a pair of queen beds. Guests can open the sliding glass doors and step directly out to a private patio. Tiled bathrooms are equally lavish and are replete with plenty of soft cotton towels and washcloths, as well as terry robes, Caswell Massey toiletries, hair dryers and make-up mirrors.
Inside Scoop: The Wigwam is in the center of a 1920s-style village with an old-fashioned post office, market, and a few other stores just across from the hotel. Quiet lovely residential neighborhoods flank the property, and it is flat which makes bike riding, jogging and walks very enjoyable and perfect for long walks with pets. The hotel staff is genuinely friendly and takes very good care of their guests and their four-legged friends.
