Sightseeing and Walking Tours. A guided tour is often best way to get a great overview of your destination or perhaps provide a sneak peek at its hidden corners. You don’t always have to leave your pet behind in the hotel room while you are taking in the sites because many tour companies allow pets on board. There are a few things that you will want to think about before booking a tour.

One of our favorite tours is Carmel Walks, where you will discover the special charms of Carmel-by-the-Sea on a 2-hour guided walking tour thru secret pathways, hidden courtyards, award-winning gardens, and by enchanting fairytale cottages... the homes, haunts, and history of famous artists, writers, and movie stars. Learn about the spirit, characters, and customs that make Carmel unique.
  • Dogs need to be very well behaved and comfortable in groups.
  • You might want to bring along a portable water dish and water.
  • Always call the tour operator ahead of time and talk to them about bringing your pet. They might offer suggestions or hints for making the trip more comfortable for your pet.

The following are just a few suggestions that we include in our pet activities database:

  • Boat charters that explore the Boston Harbor and San Francisco Bay
  • A gondola ride at Wildcat or Telluride. Ride up an hike down or ride both ways – it is up to you
  • A scenic train ride through the redwood forests on California’s Skunk Train.
  • There are also many walking excursions that are perfectly suited for pets, especially in and around Washington D.C.
  • If you want to take to the air, then a scenic float plane trip might be just the ticket.
